Oh, wait a minute…….Lets 1st answer the quick question of “What is a cookie exchange?” and “Why have a cookie exchange?”
Well, a cookie exchange is a fun way to swap and share an amazing assortment of cookies for the holiday season. Each person bakes a certain amount of just 1 kind of cookie (no duplicates at the party) and then you have a chance to exchange cookies, recipes, ideas, and most importantly FUN! Then, you can walk away with a beautiful assortment of specialty cookies all packaged and ready for gifting, or if you’re like my husband, you’ll be trying a new cookie each night (he wouldn’t dream of giving them away)! Jesus Birth Story Game – So you get a simplified version of the story of Jesus’s birth and you hand out the boxes of cookies to everyone playing. While reading the story whenever the words “right” or “left” come up in the story, the whole group will then pass their cookies in that direction until the end of the story. Whatever box you have in the end is the one you get to take home. I love this one – it’s really fun, yet still keeps on inspiring the story of Christmas!
White Elephant Style – Everyone brings there cookies, wrapped, to the exchange. You then draw number to determine who picks first. The first person goes to the main pile of already boxed cookie presents and then picks one, they then unwrap the cookies. The game continues from this point where players have the option to open a new present or to steal an already unwrapped box of cookies. Players who have their presents stolen the can chose to steal someone else’s box and it goes on until someone doesn’t steal a present anymore. A present can only be stolen once per round. The game ends when the first player gets a turn to steal at the end of everyone else’s turn.
Christmas Song Game – (A personal favorite of mine!) Make up a list of popular Christmas songs and put the titles of the songs into a hat/bowl. Now divide the players into teams. Each team then has 60 seconds to win that round. With each team taking turns, the person that draws the song title has to read the song title (to him/her self) and then sketch it out on a white board (or kids chalk board) for their team to guess what song it is. They cannot sketch words, letters, or numbers – just pictures!!!! If the persons own team cannot guess the song then the other team(s) have a chance to steal the point after the 60 seconds is up. Tally up the points in the end and the winning team gets to pick the cookies they want, then the rest are divided up among the group equally.
