Ughhh! If you have to get a back to school physical and shots for your kids this year before school starts this is your reminder to make an appointment. I also wanted to tell you about a lidocaine jelly that you can use to make the spot numb so the child can’t feel a needle if your son or daughter needs a blood draw for a lead test! This was a blessing for my son years ago!
Years ago my son didn’t pass the PKU test when he was a baby…. We found out that he had an odd thyroid condition and he was sent to a specialist and every doctor it seemed wanted blood work. Well if you’ve ever held a child down to give blood you know that its a horrible event and you feel like the worst parent in the world while you’re little one is screaming not understanding everything that is going on. Then we found out about this lidocaine jelly. Its a clear unscented jelly that your doctors writes a prescription for and it numbs the area completely! Ahhhh – total relief! You put a great big blob on the arm where they’ll take the blood and cover it with a bandage. Then, about an hour later, the area is completely numb!
So… If your child has to get blood drawn soon, be sure to ask for a prescription for the lidocaine jelly! It will make your life and the childs blood draw much easier! ☺

Hi,
Love the blog about back to school physicals and shots. I wasn’t sure if you were aware that the Federal Government has a program that provides free vaccinations to uninsured kids. This may help out some parents stressing over how they’ll pay for those back to school shots if they’ve found themselves without insurance coverage.

Thanks for posting that – I was unaware but I know there are several readers on this blog that are in financial crisis that would benefit! Thanks for thinking of others, Robin! ☺
