We had so much fun making these today! I’m big on raising kids in the kitchen so today we made these fall colored sugar cookies. Check out my photos, directions & recipe for fall colored sugar cookies.
My 3 year old LOVES to bake, make and cook in the kitchen. I always remember my mother telling us all to “get out of the kitchen” and I swore I’d keep my kids in the kitchen having fun. Now don’t take pity on me because my mom had 6 kids was some how able to get a full meal on the table every night without fail. Me – I just have 2 little ones left so there’ s a big difference. I image 6 kids would be much more overwhelming! ☺ Here is a link to some great fall leaf cookie cutters – image above. I really, really like and suggest this set!
First we made our sugar cookie dough. There’s a difference between a regular sugar cookie recipe and a sugar cookie recipe that’s meant for using cookie cutters. If you don’t use the right recipe with your cookie cutters, you won’t get them to turn out the way you want. That could end up being a very disappointing because the shapes of the leaves won’t hold. Here’s my sugar cookie dough recipe:
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
