Are you ready for your guide to July savings? This is my guide to what to buy, what’s on clearance, and what’s in season in the month of July. Its helps you to understand the monthly grocery July sale cycle as well as other promotional cycles. Planning ahead is the best way to save.
Items you’ll find on clearance in July:
- Graduation party supplies (consider purchasing now for a graduation next year)
- 4th of July party goods (napkins, table linens, blankets, party favors, etc) July 5th and later
- 4th of July apparel (after July 5th)
- Spring gardening items
A good time to buy in July:
- Popsicles
- ice cream
- Back to school (end of month)
- S’mores supplies
- Cookout-barbecue supplies Condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish, whip toppings, etc)
- Hot dogs, hamburger meat (4th of July sales – stock up & freeze)
- 4th of July clearance clothes starting July 5th for next year & tuck away (for kids buy 1 size up)
- 4th of July clearance for next year – things like Jell-o® molds, mini flags for cupcakes, napkins, plates, other party supplies etc

Consider “pick your own” farms to stock up on inexpensive fruit and vegetables for summer canning & freezing
- Instead of just throwing products away commit to emailing a company when a product brakes prematurely or did not live up to your honest expectations & request a replacement (Example: the sprayer nozzle breaks on your bathroom cleaner)
- Discuss ideas for holiday gift giving & consider some gifts that you can pick up at end of summer clearance, Add those ideas to your gift giving worksheet
- Discuss an emergency preparedness plan with your family. Write down your plan. Keep a list of the items you still need & make efforts to find them on sale & purchase over the next 1 to 3 months (hurricane season is from June 1st to November 30th)

Remember to unplug appliances when not in use & turn off lights (use Post-It® note signs around the house if needed for reminders)
- Remember to schedule your little ones for free events like the Lowes Build and Grow or Home Depot
- Harvest buttons and shoe laces off of shirts and shoes that are unusable and can’t be donated (save for another use, pair of shoes etc)

Close blinds and curtains to keep sun out on hot days to reduce cooling costs
- Consider going to yard sales to pick up camping supplies & summer clothes
- If possible dry clothes on a clothes line outside during summer months
- Challenge your family to a weekend of “no spending”
- Start summer meal planning. Plan light meals that are frequently cooked outside (so as not to heat up your house while cooking)
- Discuss what is working in your frugal plan & what needs improvements. Make adjustments as needed for your family
