It is that time of year again so it’s time to think about back to school shopping. Some of us relish the thought while others dread it. One of the biggest issues with back to school is the shopping. From school supplies to clothes to having just the right pair of shoes – kids are growing and we’ll all need to start back to school shopping.
One way to make things a little easier on ourselves is to have our children tag-a-long with us when we venture out for back to school shopping. Why would we want to do this you might ask? Well, if your child is like mine, they know what they want. There is no second guessing ourselves on our purchases when they are right there. They will be able to pick out the perfect backpack, just the right color notebook, or the age appropriate graphic on a folder. Many people don’t know that even home schoolers purchase school supplies while they’re on sale during the summer.
When buying clothes I find it hard to make the right decision. Is this the right color? Am I getting the right size? Will they even like it? When your children are involved with the process it can be painless. They either like it or they don’t. It fits or it doesn’t. Trust me, as a mother of 4, I know how hard it is to pick out clothes for them. They all have different styles and likes. It makes it so much easier if they are with me.
Another reason to include your children in back to school shopping is to get them excited about going back. Some children look forward to going back to school but others don’t – especially when you get into the teenage years. If they are given the ability to participate in picking out their clothes and supplies maybe it will make them excited about going back to school. They can take the time to shop for the perfect “1st day” outfit. It will give them something to look forward to as well. Gather the kids, pack up the car and make a day of it. The kids get what they want and you get to spend some quality time with your children. It’s a win win situation.
