A Poem for Back To School
Sometimes we must mask our outright relief at the renewed structure and purpose of a new school year with the calm that only a seasoned (and exhausted) parent can muster. With that, I give you a pithy and slightly snarky poem for back to school. Sing it (to the melody of “Silent Night”), whisper or shout it. But try to hide your smile, please. Lol (for some of you)
Silent night, crisp and cool
Little do they sense that soon
Rooms will be humming with
School bells and chalk
Right down the street from us
Just a short walk
Gather your pencils and pennnnnnns
Gather your pencils and pens.
Silent night, before the first day
Ready on time
But they’d rather stay
Duck Dynasty’s new season has only begun –
“Please can we watch a few
Of the re-runs?”
Gather your pencils and pens, child.
Gather your pencils and pens.
