You may already know that in addition to being a frugal mom, I’m also a home school mom. Since our family loves to travel, I’m always looking for unique and fun home school field trip ideas. Recently, my eldest son and I were able to go on a wonderful home school vacation that not only taught us both a lot, but also gave us time to bond and explore a culture together.
We stayed with 9 other home school families at one of the Azul Hotels by Karisma. Talk about wonderful! They cater to home school families!!!! 1st time I’ve EVER found a place that sees the value in travel, culture and home schooling! It is an all-inclusive resort located on the Yucatán Peninsula south of Cancun. Picture swaying palm trees and glorious sunshine…add in education about the culture and history of Mexico…yes folks, it was a home schooling mom’s dream vacation. ☺ While we were there we also did a partial mission trip and gave out school supplies that we had brought with us to local families in need, to help them enjoy a greater of love of learning like our own children enjoy.
The beach and pools were a lovely way to relax, especially after the excursions. The pools have clean folded towels so there was no extra packing necessary on this trip. They knew what families need and had it there!
On our 1st excursion to Indiana Joe’s Natural Park, I went zip-lining through the trees! This place is awesome – just beyond description. It was almost like an amusement park with thrills around every turn, except they were all formed by nature.
The wildlife was amazing. Indiana Joe’s also has a cave that is millions of years old – and we got to explore it. It was a once-in-a-lifetime way to experience the world around us and get a hands on look at feel at the Mexican and Mayan culture. The hotel arranged everything and it was included with our home school experience. I hope more places get on board with the home school movement.
Our second excursion was to the ruins of the City of Tulum . Tulum was built in the 13th century, and is located less than 2 hours from Cancun. We also enjoyed a bit of time on the beach in Tulum, which was a great way to get a little downtime and talk over what we were seeing. The ruins are extremely well-preserved, so you can really get a sense of what life was like for the people of this city. My son is fascinated with architecture and this day trip was definitely a highlight of our time in Mexico for him. I used to think people of the past had a hard life but after seeing Tulum I had to reconsider. That place is magnificent!
Karisma Resorts were great, and the entire trip was laid out for us. It made traveling, especially to a foreign country, so much easier. Our trip was truly an education for both of us, because my son and I both learned so much about the Yucatan Peninsula and even about ourselves. I never thought I’d be brave enough to zip line like that, but I loved it! I really can’t stress enough how perfect this trip is for a home school family that loves to travel. It was the perfect blend of education and relaxation. Can’t wait to return!!!!
