Seaworld, Florida Review. If you haven’t been to Seaworld in Orlando, Florida, you are definitely missing out on a great experience! I had not been in years…and it is so different than I remember. Seaworld today has grown, with so much more to see and do.
There are so many educational and fun shows. I think my little Sammi’s favorite was the “Pets Ahoy” show http://seaworldparks.com/seaworld-orlando/Attractions/Shows/Pets%20Ahoy It was hysterical, with lots of four-legged creatures taking the stage. They do all sorts of tricks, and we later learned that the animals in the cast were all rescues. Of course, what trip to Seaworld would be complete without taking in shows with dolphins, sea lions, and the one and only Shamu? We managed NOT to get wet because we sat well above the “splash zone” yet still had a great view of all the action.
We opted to rent a locker so that we could have our hands free for the rides, not to mention touching all sorts of sea-creatures. I was pleasantly surprised to find locker rentals near Shamu’s Happy Harbor that were just $1 for a one-time use. Since we didn’t really need to go back and forth into our belongings, just had a change of clothes for emergencies, this was a bargain.
Shamu’s Happy Harbor is a wonderful place for kids who aren’t quite ready for thrill rides just yet. There’s a spinning teacup type of ride that looks like you are riding in a jellyfish, and a massive rope climbing area, as well as lots of other attractions. Shamu even has his own kid-friendly roller coaster in this area, which delighted my daughter.
For thrill seekers like my husband, the Kracken is sure to please. It is a massive coaster that spins and winds it way while your feet dangle in the air. Another thrill ride is the Manta. Adjacent to this coaster is an exhibit where you can get up close to Manta rays.
Seaworld, like most theme parks, does not permit outside food to be brought in. We got there just as the park opened, and went back to the car for a quick lunch of sandwiches that we had made before leaving our hotel. One good option for drinks during the day is to purchase a refillable mug for under $10, and this allows you unlimited refills for just $1. The mug is large enough to be shared, especially among children. At dinner, we enjoyed the buffet of pizza and pasta at the Terrace Garden Buffet.
There is an area where you walk through an underwater tunnel and are surrounded by fish and sea creatures. It was really a unique experience, and all around us people were saying “ooh, look at that one!” However, I think the biggest thrill of the day came not from the rides, but from the dolphin encounter. Getting to touch the dolphins was really neat, and they loved all the attention they were getting. The dolphins just swam up to the edge to be petted.
My family really enjoyed our day at Seaworld, and will go back again on future trips to the Orlando area. If you’ve experienced Seaworld recently, I’d love to hear from you!
