Borax Uses: Homemade Laundry Detergent with Borax
Borax has been around for about 100 years, and today, this product is used in households worldwide as a common cleaning agent. Borax uses include acting as a cleaning and whitening booster in laundry detergent. I have a great “recipe” for homemade laundry detergent using Borax that will make your laundry expenses go way down (about in 1/2). Plus, what I really like best about Borax is that it doesn’t cause cancer, accumulate in the body, or absorb through the skin. Hey that is a good product in my book! On your box of borax you’ll see that it may be listed as “poison” on the box, however keep in mind that it’s only toxic at very, very high levels. (like baking soda for instance, and even water ) Borax is also considered “sustainable mining” so if you’re a “go green kinda girl” you’ll be happy to know that it is mining from the earth in a safe and sustainable way.
Homemade Powered Laundry Detergent with Borax
You will need:
- 1 bar of Castile soap, or Fels Naptha soap – shredded/grated
- ½ cup Borax
- 1 Cup washing soda
- 1 teaspoon essential oil fragrance (optional)
Simply mix all above ingredients together until there are no clumps. Use one tablespoon per load of laundry. Yes, it is that concentrated! This will keep for several months, so I make a few batches at a time and store in a large bucket, with a small container of laundry detergent near my washing machine.
