There are so many uses for Borax! I have a recipe for homemade dishwashing detergent. Just a few weeks ago I posted a recipe for laundry detergent in my “Uses for Borax” series. Borax is relatively cheap and is considered “green” and one of the FEW things in life that is considered to be mined from the earth that is sustainable.
Borax is safe to use on human skin. It comes from California where one of the world’s largest deposits of boron was discovered in 1913. What I like best about Borax is that it doesn’t cause cancer, accumulate in the body, or absorb through the skin. On your box of borax you’ll see that it may be listed as “poison” on the box, however keep in mind that it’s only toxic at very, very high levels. (like baking soda for instance, and even water if you ingest enormous amounts). But, remember that smaller animals and kids only need to ingest smaller amounts of anything toxic so keep out of reach of kids to make sure it is never accidentally eaten.
Ok, so onto the environmentally friendly homemade dishwashing detergent recipe with Borax;
Ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon Borax
- 1 Tablespoon Baking Soda
Add to your dishwasher however you normally add your dishwashing detergent and wash as usual. ☺ To see my Top 25 Uses for Borax go here.
