Uses for Epsom Salt – Epsom Salt is another name for Magnesium Sulfate. It has been long used in “bath salts”. Epsom Salt is an inorganic compound that is made up of Magnesium, Sulfate and Oxygen. While athletes have long used Epsom Salt to soak away sore muscles, there are also lots of beauty and medical uses. It is a hidden treasure under your sink that is under estimated and under used. This is one of the many frugal treasures that most people are missing out on using!! - Detox baths are wonderful for ridding your body of toxins that often make us feel less than our best. For a quick and easy soak mix together Epsom Salt
, Baking Soda, Apple cider vinegar, ground ginger and an essential oil of your choice in a warm tub. - Cold and Flu Relief – soaking in a relaxing detox bath you will help open your pores and allow the essential oils to help rid you of colds or the flu!
- Lip Scrub – You can make a wonderful repairing lip scrub by using honey and Epsom Salt together into a chunky paste and gently rubbing it on your lips to remove dry, dead skin.
- Body Scrub – using Epsom Salt is so much better and less expensive than the ones you will find in the store, all you need is coconut oil, Epsom Salt and an extract that you like (Lavender is my favorite for relaxation – this is the one I use most!). Mix them together in a jar with an airtight seal. So you’ll use about 2 cups Epsom salts to about 1/2 tablespoon essential oils. These makes GREAT gifts for moms that moms that have just had a baby!
- Poison Ivy Relief – Simply apply a cotton washcloth soaked in Epysom Salt and cold water. This will help relieve irritation and swelling and thus offer relief.
- Laxative you can mix Epsom Salt with water and drink it on a very infrequent basis to resolve minor constipation issues.
- Acne treatment can be made at home by combining olive oil, honey and Epsom Salt, apply to the affected area let sit and gently rinse off.
- Blackheads can be treated by mixing Epsom Salt into hot water until it dissolves and adding in iodine. Allow to cool apply to affected area allow it to dry completely then wash away gently with warm water and pat dry.
- Inflammation/Swelling – Help for sore achy muscles simply by adding Epsom Salt to a warm bath or compress and apply to the area.
- DIY Bath Salts can be made by combining your favorite oils, Epsom Salt and essential oils or extracts with or without food coloring.
- DIY Bath Bombs are so much fun! You can make them right at home using a few items and ingredients. You need water, Epsom Salt, essential oil of your choice and a spherical mold. You can also add food coloring, but they are beautiful and sparkly all on their own.
- Fabric Softener Crystals this one is super simple and easy! Just mix Epsom Salt with essential oil to get a wonderful homemade fabric softener just like you find in the store!
- Bug Bite Treatment apply a cold cloth soaked in Epsom Salt mixed with water to relieve irritation and swelling, naturally.
- Garden soil additive – when planting seeds to help them germinate better. Just sprinkle them in with the dirt, cover your seeds and wait for your yummy veggies to grow.
- Plant Health – Magnesium Sulfate is essential to plant health and growth so add a couple table spoons to your watering can once or twice a month to help maintain your potted plants.
- Sun Burns and Irritations – Have you ever overindulged in the sun? Well your days of goopy sticky stuff all over, mix two tablespoons of Epsom Salt into a small to medium spray bottle and apply to the irritated areas.
