3 Steps to learn How to Root Plant Clippings;
1) Clip plan at tips anywhere from approximately 8″ to 18″ long
2) shave any bark like outer layering to the bottom 1.5″ to 3″
3) a) place your clipping in water to grow roots then plant (keep out of direct sunlight during this period) Above are my honeysuckle (they smell so good)
b) You can also shave any bark like outer lay as in step #2 above but then dip your shaved part in rooting hormone and directly plant afterwards.
NOTE: The less bark like the slipped end the easier it will be to root. Fruit trees are the slowest growing and hardest to grow from clippings – most other plants root easily. When shaving bark from bottom of clipped plant I use a serrated knife – it’s easy to shave it. You can also clip your plants, shave the bark at the bottom and place in a coffee can fill of water.
