Are you ready to have some serious fun? I want to show you how to make a Tie Dye Shirt at Home.
Anyone can do it – you don’t really need an artsy skill for tie dye but if you are creative you can have even more fun…. but even if you’re aren’t you can still make a beautiful shirts, shoes, pants etc that are exciting to wear whenever you want something unique that shows off your personal style. Tie dye is original and that is what makes it fun! No two are the same! The pictures below are of tie dye art made with the help of 2 friends Denise T. and Beth G of Maryland. Their kids did a fabulous job on their tie dye art and a big thanks for letting us post the pictures afterwards so everyone else could see and learn! We’re planning on doing another tie dye art project with our home school cooperative this year using the dyes from Oriental Trading (high quality great price) You can do tie dye in a small group like we did below or a large group like we’re going to do again this school year.
Supplies to make a tie dye shirt at home:
- Tie Dye Kit (we use Oriental Trading, great service – see my review here)
- White T-shirt (or whatever clothing you’d like to use)
- rubberbands
Directions:
1) Pinch fabric in the middle then kind of twist it until all fabric is in a spiral shape sort of shape.
2) Use your large rubber bands to bind it together. You can overlap rubber bands.
3) Add your colors one section at a time (one color one section of the rubber banded area). Be sure to saturate well through or flip over to add color to the back side (your choice)
4) After 24 hours (you can go shorter on the time but it really should have a good amount of time to “set” the color in) your shirt is ready to go. You may like to rinse the excess color under the bathroom sink until your water runs clear.
5) Dry, wear, repeat fun!
Thanks to Oriental Trading for the items I received at no charge in exchange for a review of their products. To check out my full review go here.
