A Great Car Experience 2015 KIA Optima SX! Recently I had to take my son to Frostburg, MD, as he is a transfer student finishing his bachelors degree. It was a pretty good ride to get to the school (3.5 hrs) and I was fortunate enough to be able to go in a new 2015 KIA Optima SX. Well let me just say – I LOVE this car!
I was really surprised at how cost effective it was with the added bonus of the fuel economy! I had heard about the KIA Optima before but didn’t truly know much about this particular model but off we went on a road trip for my oldest of my 4 kids.
KIA advertises the Optima SX (with the 2.4 litre engine) to average 34 mpg on the highway (27 combined), they didn’t exaggerate. Since the trip up and back was all highway I was able to put the Optima fuel economy to test and was very pleased – especially considering that there was soooo much up hill driving. Keep in mind I drive like a mom and not a speedster (lol), I am sure if you like to get into the gas hard and heavy you will lose some of the fuel economy. Above is a selfie of me when I stopped at the Allegheny County line – 3 hours down and a little more to go!
The first thing I noticed when getting into the KIA was how comfortable the car was, and I am all about comfort since I’m toting kids from here to there most days of the week. The car rode great and was packed with features. I really liked the back up camera and was impressed with how easy it was to use, the guidelines that line you up in a parking space were terrific and made parking even easier. I have never been in a car before that had the guideline features! Big plus because when you’re looking at a back up camera things are closer, much closer than they appear. In addition, as a mom I thought this was a great added bonus since it is so difficult to see behind you, and with my kids there are always toys in the driveway as well as running children, with the cameras view I could see all that. (Happy mom moment, little things count! Look at the image above closely and you’ll see the red yellow and green guides)
The other features of the KIA Optima SX that really stood out were the navigation system and bluetooth capabilities. The navigation system was very easy to use versus some other cars I have tried using them in and given up. Super user friendly. Oh, and there was plenty of trunk space too! Need that for sure!
I easily connected my phone and was able to check in at home hands free (4 total kids, 2 graduated from high school, 2 still at home and 1 great hubby). The bluetooth was loud and clear and my husband could hear me clearly on the other end. Nice.
The lower anchors and latches for my daughter’s car seat made it a cinch to get her safely set up in the back with her car seat. As moms know, car seats can be insane to install but this went smoothly.
With the smooth ride, ease of controls plus five star safety ratings, the three and a half hour trip felt much shorter and was an absolute joy, I honestly did not want to return the car and will seriously consider the KIA Optima SX as a future family investment.
Note: The KIA Optima SX averages around $25,000 – not bad in today’s economy! And that is me with my 1st college kid! Yahooo – looks like I’ve done something great doesn’t it! 3 semesters left and he’ll be graduated!
