7 Christmas Savings Tips – I have 7 savings tips for Christmas that I hope will help save you the frustration of trying to pay off holiday debt after Christmas is over. Many people splurge at Christmas and for them the holiday doesn’t really end until sometime in March or even July when they pay off credit card debt. If you’re shopping and snag a HOT Black Friday deal it won’t be so hot if you add an extra $50-$60 in interest on to your deal. So, follow these Christmas shopping tips to help you stay focused and stick to your Christmas budget!
- #1. Make a list. Before you shop online or venture out with the crowds on Black Friday, make a spending plan that lists who you need to buy for and how much you’d like to spend for each person. This will help you to resist impulse buys while you’re in the stores shopping
- #2. Check your social media. Start following your favorite retailers on Facebook or Twitter. Companies sometimes offer discounts exclusively to their Facebook friends or Twitter followers, so click some like buttons and make a quick search of recent posts to find those money saving discount codes and coupons.
- #3. Use online discount codes. When you shop online check the specials or sales tabs before you shop like for instance if you join Amazon mom you’ll receive special coupons and discounts and it’s completely FREE to join. Many companies have discount codes that you plug in when you’re paying so you get a cheaper price. For example, Walgreens frequently offers discounts on photo books for the holidays and discounted picture cards but you must find the discount code and type it in on the payment screen at your online check out.
- #4. Don’t send Christmas cards until December. If you forgot to buy your Christmas cards on clearance after Christmas last year, wait until they go on sale closer to Christmas – look for 1/2 price deals. Better yet, send Christmas letters instead. You can save even more and be “earth friendly” by cutting old Christmas cards in half and sending the pretty front as a postcard (remember the postage for a postcard costs less).
- #5. Send in those rebates. Look for items that offer cashback. Just a little extra time on your part can possibly get you some cash in return. Make sure you read the fine print before you make your purchase. Kohls is usually a store that offers rebates on kitchen gadgets around the holidays.
- #6. Avoid signing up for new credit cards that offer a discount UNLESS YOU CAN PAY OFF THE BILL IN FULL WHEN IT ARRIVES. Some stores offer discounts if you sign up for their credit card but beware of the high rate of interest these cards may charge you unless you’re in a position and are self disciplined enough to completely pay off the bill so as to avoid interest payments. And remember tip number one, don’t spend more than you intended for someone just because the store offers a higher discount if you spend more.
- #7. This is the season for giving. One of our family rules is no shopping for yourself at Christmas. Impulse purchases end up costing more than you planned. Besides, you don’t know what you’re getting for Christmas yet. And if you don’t get it for Christmas it’ll probably be cheaper after Christmas.
Keep this thought in mind: when you buy something on sale you didn’t “save” any money you just spent it, so stick to your list. I hope these tips will help you avoid the “I spent too much money” frustration and the buyers regret when you start the new year. . Have fun shopping and saving with these 7 savings tips for Christmas. Happy Holidays, fellow saving friends! ☺
