Christmas Paper Chain – As a mom I love to craft and make things with the kids and decorate for the holidays. Well Christmas is no different in my house and although some only think Christmas decorations consist of lights and tinsel we like to home craft and add personal touches to our tree and house each year. This is a simple ways kids of all ages can get involved and you’ll frequently run into some fun sibling rivalry with who can make the longest Christmas paper chain each year. We decorate with Christmas paper chains, lights and bells and of course yummy and delicious Christmas cookies too!
To help you get started on some really fun, yet simple and inexpensive homemade, Christmas decorations I’ll show you how easy you can make a beautiful homemade Christmas paper chain. This activity
is suitable for a child of any age that can staple either alone or with the assistance of any adult. Now we use a Martha Steward inexpensive paper cutter to cut our strips of paper. We’re a crafty kinda family so we already own one of these but you can easily cut your strips of paper with scissors. I do not suggest young kids use a paper cutter however I’ve been crafting with my daughter she she was a toddler so she knows about safety. These are VERY sharp and could send you to the hospital so use common sense with your children and be safe always.
NOTE: You can use absolutely ANY paper you like when making paper chains however I love to use specialty fun paper like this.
Materials Needed to make a Christmas Paper Chain:
Directions to make your Christmas Paper Chain: Cut your strips of paper – I like a piece about 2″ to 3″ wide .You can use any width but for a Christmas paper chain I like mine thicker than say a Valentine’s Heart Paper Chain.
After you’ve cut your strips start stapling together. Start by simply stapling one chain then staple the next chain into the 1st chain. Each chain generally takes 2 staples in our estimation but sometimes if you’re really good about centering you can make one good staple right in the middle.
Continue adding paper and stapling. Decorate however you like – on a Christmas tree or draped on your windows! Have fun with it!
