Easy Easter Cookies – When you think of decorating cookies, you may think of Christmas, but you can decorate cookies for any holiday, including Easter! Easy Easter cookies are fun to make and you can enjoy the process as a family and make extra to decorate for friends and neighbors. Basically, all you need is your favorite rolled sugar cookie dough, or homemade if you want to make the dough yourself, some Easter shaped cookie cutters like bunnies, baskets, eggs, chicks and flowers and some icing. It’s a process, but a fun one, and one you can share with your children.
I’ll start with my personal favorite because it involves chocolate! These egg shaped cookies are dipped in melted chocolate, covered in sprinkles and adorned with an edible sugar bunny. So easy, but so adorable and I am sure, so tasty! Here’s what you are going to need to make these yummy treats.
Ingredients:
- Sugar cookie dough baked following the recipe directions or those on the package
- Chocolate wafers, melted
- Rainbow sprinkles
- Sugar bunny heads, one for each cookie
Directions:
- Cut cookies out in egg (large oval) shapes. You may want to make these cookies a bit thicker than normal since they will be dipped in chocolate and you want them to hold up
- Melt the chocolate wafers per the directions on the bag (microwave or double broiler method)
- When cookies are baked and cooled, use tongs to dip the entire cookie in the melted chocolate (to thin chocolate if needed add 1/4 tsp of coconut oil over and over until usable)
- Lay on a parchment paper covered counter and immediately cover the bottom half of the cookie with rainbow sprinkles
- Attach one sugar bunny head to the top of the oval
- Let chocolate harden/set
There you have it! You can include the kids in this one for sure. For very little effort you can make adorable cookies that can’t help but taste good. Easy Easter cookies are a big hit with family and friends! They will disappear off the plate as fast as you can make them!
Next, we have an even easier one to do. You make your cookie dough, cut out, decorate in solid colors and adorn with a bit of detail. That’s it! You can do carrots, bunnies, chicks etc. The idea here is to use one solid color to decorate most of the cookie and then add sparse detail and let the shape of the cookie speak for itself.
Ingredients:
- A roll of your favorite sugar cookie dough or a batch of your homemade recipe
- Pastel icing
- A few tubes of decorator icing
Directions:
- Bake your cookies according to package directions and cool
- Thin your icing with a little Karo syrup then spread over your cookie and let icing set
- Add a few touches with your decorator tubes (optional)
These cookies are best left simple. Let the cookie shape and the solid color be the “voice” of the cookie. They are super easy and super delicious. Ask anyone in the house if they want to be the first one to sample them! I bet there will be a lot of volunteers!
Our last example of easy Easter cookies is the easiest one yet! Meet Gingerbread Bunny! He’s the grandson of the Gingerbread Man and the Gingerbread Woman, I hear 😉 A large bunny cookie cutter and a few small ones for good measure and you are on your way to tasty, adorable Easter cookies for your Easter table.
Ingredients:
- A batch of your favorite gingerbread dough
- A large bunny cookie cutter and a small one too
- Black decorator gel
Directions:
- Bake a batch of dough using your large and small cookie cutters and let cool
- When completely cool, add some features on to your large bunny shapes
Really! I can do this one and I know you can too! Chocolate bunnies usually are the center of attention at Easter, but this year, make these delicious gingerbread bunnies and they will steal the show!
Easy Easter cookies are simple to make and don’t require too much effort on your part. Kids can get involved and baking easy Easter cookies could become a family tradition just like baking decorative Christmas cookies. Make these on the day before Easter and set a few out with some juice to see if the Easter Bunny likes a treat when he stops by your house just like Santa does! The hardest part will be deciding which cookie he would like best! You might just want to give him one of each!
