Well, another fun day in the life of me, Maggie – a fun mom that understands the value of a day with her family in a very busy world. As the hot weather moves across the nation there’s no better time to hit the theme parks than now, yes NOW! We had the privilege of spending a day together at Kings Dominion in Virginia and I want to share my experience with you, mom to mom and family to family. I hadn’t been to Kings Dominion since I was a kid but the time had come to tell the kids about the Rebel Yell! Okay you may be laughing but that was BIG when I was a kid! The Rebel Yell was considered cutting edge thrilling fun and every now and again I like to show my kiddos what it was like when I was a child and what better way than to experience it, right?
So our day started off with a short road trip to a place about 30 minutes North of Richmond called Doswell, Virginia. Don’t worry, it’s hard to get lost with all of the highway signs as you get close to the them park and the trip from pretty much anywhere in the Mid-Atlantic region was rather short over all. After parking, before we ever made it through the gates we were greeted by the Peanuts gang! Talk about fun…. It’s always heart warming to see your daughter hug the characters but when you see your husband get excited and hug them….well, that is enough to force you have to make a fast trip to the bathroom from sheer laughter, directly at your husband. He’s like a big kid and the the question did pop into my mind, “Who would have a better time, Jeff or the kids?”
1st, off to the Eiffel tower. Our strategy was to survey the park from above so we could come up with a game plan for our family day. In addition to being clean, full of fresh flowers, and well manicured grassy areas, we took note of Soak City which opened full time on the 9th of this month. Although we didn’t hit the water park on this particular trip, after seeing Soak City I had to promise the kids a trip back to the park before we continued on with our adventure. A water park is just too invited with the potential for so many memories and family fun.
Off we went to ride after ride with Samantha driving in an old fashioned car and then racing off to a couple of water rides to cool down. Then we figured the day wouldn’t be complete without some delicious treats. After seeing some people walk past and smelling the funnel cakes we knew what was next on the list – FOOD! I was amazed at all the dining options for palates of all types. After hearing my daughter tell my husband that this was the “best day ever” it made my tired feet just a little bit lighter.
If you’re wondering what my favorites were? I’ll tell you;
- Family time
- Family Time
- Family Time
With our day at Kings Dominion I was able to have family time and have some fun new experiences. We didn’t get a new toy or any new clothes, instead we spent our time enjoying a day of laughter and experienced a new them park just a short hop from anywhere in the Baltimore-Washington DC Metro area. That meant more to me than anything (but… yes I do have to admit the funnel cake came in 4th place after the “family time!”

Oh my gosh, I lived in Ashland Virginia when I was 11 years old, right across the street from Kings Dominion! I had so much fun there, and so many great memories!
