Adventures in Greater Fayetteville – There is nothing greater than sharing experiences and making memories with your family. This past summer, myself, my daughter, my son, and my husband were able to visit greater Fayetteville, NC for Father’s Day weekend. From June 17-19 we had an adventure of a lifetime & spent quality time with the best dad ever – my husband!! We packed in fun, good food and adventure!!! If you are thinking of visiting Fayetteville, take a look at the fun you can have:
Upon our arrival, we set out to Spring Lake Outpost. Spring Lake is an undisturbed river with diverse wildlife and trees. We had the option to go canoeing down the river or tubing. Canoeing was a great way for us to take in the sights and enjoy the natural beauty around us.
Mash House
We had dinner at the Mash House before heading back to the hotel. This quaint restaurant had so much to choose from, we didn’t know what to try. Each dish is made with the help of local produce when possible because Mash House prides themselves in supporting local farmers. The food was absolutely exquisite.
Waterfall and Treetop Zipline Adventure
Waterfall and Treetop Zipline Adventures is one of the top 10 ziplines in the United States. I have to say my kids are some adrenaline junkies. They loved every minute of zipping past treetops, over bridges, and waterfalls. Let’s just put it this way; I don’t think my feet touched the ground for 2 hours. It was an incredible experience, and I would recommend it to any family.
Tour the Cape Fear Botanical Gardens
Nestled between seventy-eight acres of Cape Fear River and Cross Creek, Cape Fear Botanical Gardens is home to more than 2,000 different ornamental plants. It, also, has several specialty gardens including Camellia, Daylily, and Hosta gardens. After flying high in the sky for two hours, this was a beautiful calming retreat.
Huske Hardware House Brewing Company
We aren’t big into drinking, but this place had some of the best beer we have ever had. The restaurant specializes in UK menu items, so I wasn’t sure how I was going to like it. However, as a family that finds fun, we like to take risks. Even though there were strange names like Bangers & Mash, Shepherd’s pie and Huske Brew Battered fish & chips, the food was to die for.
The Airborne and Special Operations Museum
We definitely had a blast everywhere we went, but one of our favorite places was the Airborne and Special Operations Museum. As a homeschooling mom, I found it both engaging to my kids and educational. It is the only museum that tells the whole story of the US Army Airborne and Special Operations troops. My kids were able to see life-size exhibits and real military equipment. If you are looking for a great way to get history into your day, this is the place to go. We learned about Iron Mike, the world’s first memorial to special operations, and each member of the NC military that was killed from WWII to today.
New Deli Restaurant
Our last stop before heading home was the New Deli Restaurant. This place had an amazing lunch menu that can’t be beat anywhere else. I mean they had cute little sandwiches, paninis, and various dishes to choose from. Our favorite were the dessert apples and chocolate dipped strawberries. My mouth is watering just writing about it.
If you’re thinking of a weekend getaway…. one where everyone in the family has fun, but especially Dad, then Fayetteville is the answer! ☺Where will you take Dad on Father’s Day?
