You know I think this topic is highly controversial however there is an etiquette on social media when it comes to sharing pictures of children of the internet.
This “ask before you share” controversy came up for me about 2 years ago. A relative shared an image of me & my kids at a birthday party on Facebook. It was a child’s party and completely benign but that was my first experience with questioning the etiquette of sharing images on the internet, especially when your children are being publicly displayed.
It seems like everyone has an opinion but I have to say I’m in favor of ask before you share. Now my kids faces are all over the internet because I do share all sorts of images of us cooking and having fun. It was a decision that my husband and family made a long time ago. If I take a funny or embarrassing photo of someone in my family and they don’t feel good about it then we don’t share it. Well what about relatives? With cameras built into cell phones it seems everyone is always snapping pictures at events.
So what do you do? Ask before you share. Even if it is your best friend or relative its always courteous to ask before you upload a pictures and share it on any social media site. No judgement are necessary. Everyone has their own reason for wanting or not wanting an image made public so please be respectful & be sure “friends” on your Facebook list do the same! ☺
