Well I spent the day hitting a really fun place to shop for back to campus supplies for my 20 year old son that is a senior at Frostburg State in Western Maryland. Apparently my son is “too cool” to shop for back to school so my daughter and I had no problem hitting the local At Home Superstore and finding everything we needed in this home shopping mecca! If you’re looking for value plus “must haves” for dorm life At Home is the place to go!
As a mom of 4 kids having never lived on campus myself, dorm life was all new to me! Basically other than a sterile room, 2 beds (nothing fancy just a single mattress), desk, and closet, you need to bring EVERYTHING. That means hangers, sheets, pillows, mini dresser or some set of drawers or cubby space, small carpet, and things to make them feel at home -on the walls possibly. Although most boys leave feeling like all is well and fine they do get home sick so the more you can customize the dorm room to feel more like a bedroom instead of a boring sterile environment the better. You’ll want to customize to meet the needs of each kid but here’s a good starter checklist to help you get moving; http://bit.ly/AtHomeBackToCampus
Here are a few Back to Campus Tips:
- Buy value items – kids at college are hard on items and since they’re moved in and out of the dorms they get beat up fast
- Don’t skip customizing the room (inexpensively of course) because it helps to have a more “home” feel for the college kids
- Invest in a tack board – Kids can leave notes to their room mate, friends etc as well as important “to do” reminders to keep them on track at college (there are lots of distractions – trust me!)
I am participating in a promotional program with At Home and Mom Select. The shopping experience and excitement about decorating my sons dorm room is 100% mine!
