As a homeschool parent, I was thrilled to take a venture through the new Barnes and Noble at Columbia Mall! The concept is much different from most of the chain’s 600 plus stores throughout the country, but this new prototype is just the type of experience I look for as a homeschooling parent. Not only is it something I can rave about to other homeschool parents, but the new prototype has a lot to offer everyone! Of course, I got to be there for their grand opening, but if you haven’t had a chance to stop in yet, here are a few good reasons to check it out:
Barnes and Noble Offers Field Trips
First and foremost, I am excited to share that this Barnes and Noble offers field trips to B&N for both schools and homeschool groups. I was even more thrilled that before the manager, Jim Jurczak, began his journey with B&N, he was a school teacher. So, he knows just how important it is to get kids excited about reading! The children’s area is at the back of the store and includes a fun LEGO section for kids to enjoy. With books, activities, and an engaging set up, kids will love their trip to Barnes and Noble where they can learn, read, and have fun!
It’s Easy to Find What You Want
I know if I can’t find something quickly, I probably won’t spend the time searching. With staff equipped with tablets and self-serve kiosks, Barnes and Noble is making it easier to find exactly what you are looking for. Not only can you use a kiosk to find titles or ask an associate, but the design of the store is purposefully set up so that you can find exactly what you want leading you perfectly to my favorite part of the store….
The Cafe
If you are like me, you know how important Starbucks is! What I love the most about the design is how the cookbooks lead you right to the cafe. It’s almost surreal how they did it. Of course, you can get more than just coffee including: baked goods, sandwiches, quiches, soups, flatbreads, and healthy grab and go snacks. With ample seating, this is a great place to gather with friends or family for a snack and a book. It also makes a great place for you to meet with business partners as well as work online from home (free WIFI). I will definitely be spending some more time there as I write for my blog.
Another great feature of the Columbia Barnes and Noble is the 700-foot flexible space that is available to the public. You can gather for community events, book fairs, reading, story times, and so much more. I can’t wait to use this space for all the different fun our family likes to have. Talk to the manager if you want to use this space for big events. The store number is: 410-423-3022
