Here at FamilyFrugalFun.com I share lots of stories about being frugal and how to have fun with your family while not having to spend too much money. We all take for granted our everyday lives and being able to enjoy our family time together, however last year one Belcamp, MD family found their daily lives in chaos as their family home burned.
This month marks a year since the Asbury family home burned down. At the time, local friends and strangers came to the family’s aid with an abundance of donations, gifts and kindness. Since then, Tabby Asbury wished that one day she could thank everyone and show how much their thoughtfulness meant to her and her family. She was filled with heart felt grattitude but unsure of how to express it.
Well, back in December of 2014 while she was watching the Rachel Ray Show, Tabby learned about a program asking people to share their wish for someone else, the #WishForOthers campaign sponsored by Capital One. Upon discovering this Tabby realized she could have a unique opportunity to repay her kindhearted neighbors, and she wanted to do it by cooking for them! Immediately, she posted her story on social media and had success!
Capital One helped make her wish come true by throwing a chili feast for the community. It was held February 4, 2015 at The Riverside Community Center in Belcamp, MD.
According to Capital One,
“Belcamp, MD, resident Tabby Asbury reminded us what giving back is all about last night when she became chef for a night and cooked her famous homemade chili for her community. Local residents came to the Riverside Community Center to enjoy a night of gratitude and about 60 pounds of delicious chili.”
What could be more of a Family story than one of community rallying around a local family to help them rebuild and get life back on track, then to top it off the mother of the family has the opportunity to give back to that same community? It makes my heart warm at the thought. That is what keeps me going – people like Tabby Asbury!!!!
