Cool Math Games for Kids – Hi everyone, it’s me, Maggie, your frugal family and frugal fun expert! With the school year in full swing, it’s time to start thinking of ways to help enforce what our kids are learning in the classroom, and I know lots of parents say math is a BIG struggle. Even more important than being a frugal mom is the fact that I’m a homeschool mom. So, today, I wanted to share some cool math games for kids. I like to get kids learning through play.
Have you ever played Mancala? My sons love this game, and when they learned to play years ago, they never even realized how educational it was! Mancala is an ancient game that is very basic in nature, but teaches counting skills in a really fun manner. It’s quick and easy to learn, which is always a plus.
Zoom is a favorite in my household as well – it’s a really fun multiplication game that also reinforces addition skills. If you are a fan of the card game “Uno” then you will enjoy this one.
One game I remember from growing up that I sought out for my own children is Hi-Ho, Cherry-Oh. It is an early learning game that requires no reading skills, but teaches counting and basic addition and subtraction concepts. This game has been passed down from child to child in my family and now provides my littlest one with lots of enjoyment!
Games such as Monopoly or the Game of Life teach lessons about money, which many schools don’t spend a great deal of time teaching. Many people don’t consider the benefits of basic board games for reinforcement of math skills, but these everyday games can turn into really fun math aids. I have always advocated giving games as gifts for birthdays and other occasions to kids, for just this reason.
When you think of a cool game that helps with math skills, what comes to mind?
