I know you’ve got questions…. Does Dumbo’s mom die? Is this movie too sad for little ones? What is the new Dumbo movie rated? Does Dumbo die in the end? I’ve got a full review of this film and I’ll do my best to answer your questions after seeing the film with my 2 kids.
Let me start by noting that Tim Burton has outdone himself with the remake on this original classic film that dates back many, many generations. The setting takes place, for the most part, at the circus where Dumbo is born and gets his name from a jeering audience laughing at his larger than life ears.
The line-up of talent in this film is incredible! Michael Keaton plays an evil, emotionally distant villain who runs the circus and only thinks of himself and his money while Danny DeVito runs a traveling circus and keeps you smiling with some really fun one-liners.
This was definitely the time for this remake as the scenes for the flying baby elephant are quite realistic! Dumbo’s eyes are full of love and emotion, a characteristic that Disney is famous for developing to evoke emotions from the viewer.
So many have asked me if this movie is too sad for little ones…. Truth be told that are a couple of sad parts but Dumbo end on a high point and he and his mother are saved. Just think of good verses evil and good always wins. My 10 year old LOVED this film and my 15 (soon to be 16 year old) went so far as to see it twice!
Dumbo is rated PG and I consider this remake a very safe, fun family movie event!
Family Finds Fun gives DUMBO a 5 star rating and says it’s another classic must see Disney film that is perfect for families.
