Looking for some easy homemade gifts for Christmas? I made these pine cone fire starters with my 5 year old daughter last year and they were a HUGE hit with all of her aunts and uncles and grandparents, plus, they were relatively easy to make and very cost effective when you get the pine cones for free from your own yard, a neighbor or your local state park. I have a quick 2 minute video tutorial to show you how she made them and I’ve also written out the steps for these are other easy homemade Christmas gifts!
Who doesn’t love a fire? A fire place, a fire pit – it doesn’t matter, there is just something comforting and warming about a fire. Well this year my daughter and I made this fun DIY fire starter to help get a good fire going easily. They’re beautiful and fun!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pine Cones
- Wicks
- Plain wax
- Cup Cake baking cups (Snowman)
Directions for DIY Fire Starters:
1st cut your wicks about 2 ” long.
Next, melt your wax according to directions (NOTE: You don’t have to buy wax you can use wax from old candles in your home).
Pour melted wax into baking cups lined in a cup cake pan. Add wicks (if you’re making these in a cool environment be sure to work quickly before your wax sets.
Now add your pine cones and allow to cool completely.
Remove and place in an old tin (like a popcorn tin).
Makes for great gifts placed in an old tin with a simple ribbon!
