It seems like it gets harder and harder to find good appropriate gifts for kids these days. Especially for moms like me that are more interested in experiences than “things” and outdoor adventures verses indoor gifts. Years ago, when I was in college, I remember a study that my professor shared with us. It was one of those tidbits of information that just kind of sticks with you and you never forget. He asked us a question and we had to take a vote. The question was, “Do adults recall more memories from childhood from the indoors or outdoors?” Well, we gathered in groups and discussed and pondered for 20 minutes before we had to vote…. We thought surely the answer must be indoors because kids spend more time inside their homes (think eating and sleeping and doing homework) than outside, right?
Well actually the answer was OUTDOORS! When adults recall their most fond memories from childhood 80% of those memories took place outside. Now that I’m an adult with kids of my own I completely understand and I myself also recall my most fond memories taking place outside.
Now, when my kids are invited to a birthday party I make a point to do my best to bring along a gift that a child can use outside and foster those fun memories all thru childhood.
And that leads me to our latest and greatest discovery and the toy that is now in my top 10 for outside fun; the Stomp Rocket. But wait, it’s get even better….. There’s a glow in the dark Stomp Rocket so kids can have fun in the daytime or at night! We’ve taken our Stomp Rocket camping to Cape Henlopen State Park to play with on the beach at dark and on our last wild and crazy excursion to River Expeditions in West Virginia where we went ziplining and white water rafting with a large group of kids.
What I love about the glow in the dark Stomp Rocket:
- Appropriate for day time or night time fun
- Meets my requirement of an “outside” fun experience/toy
- Appropriate for boys or girls
- Inexpensive and very easy to use
- Great for use in groups where kids can easily take turns and share or alone to keep kids busy by themselves
- Small enough to take on trips
- Easy to use right out of the box
- You can use the stand that comes with it or point your rocket in a direction for a fun distance competition
