Fun Road Trip Games – Everyone enjoys going on a road trip, but sometimes the ride is long and the kids get bored and then everyone starts getting grumpy and… Well, you know how it goes. When you are traveling with your family, it is wise to plan ahead and have some fun road trip games up your sleeve to keep everyone entertained and to divert their attention away from the fact that there are still several more hours to go before you reach your destination. My family will be road tripping to eastern Canada later this year and I’ve been researching some fun road trip games to keep my gang entertained. Here’s what I found:
Name That Theme Song!
Have the first player hum the tune to a theme song from a television show. Everyone takes turns guessing what it is. When someone gets it right everyone joins in and sings the song out loud together. The humming part will have the entire family laughing and the singing part is just fun. Time flies by and there are smiling faces and you are thinking you just might make it to your destination with your sanity intact after all!
Find That Letter!
Start with A and have the first person look around for that letter on a road sign, license tag, billboard etc. When they find it then the next person gets B. Or you can look for the letters as a family, helping each other find all the letters in the alphabet. Don’t give up on Q or X. You can do it! Team work may build moral and get those quarreling siblings to put aside their differences and help each other find that letter.
Back Seat Bingo!
Create or buy travel bingo boards and set a time limit for the game. Then each player has to find the items on his/her bingo card before the time is up. Play regular Bingo or play fill the card if you have lots of time to kill. This will have the kids looking out the window and searching for their items. Make sure to remind them to be quiet and not shout out what they find so the other players won’t see it! Quiet and busy children! Win! Win!
And Then…!
Start a story.
Make it interesting and possibly silly and after a few sentences say “And then…” and let the next person pick up where you left off. After adding a few sentences they say “And then…” and this continues until someone runs out of fun things to add and says THE END!
There is nothing quite like a road trip to bond with your family, make fantastic memories and to introduce everyone to new sights. These trips can be great fun, but if you have children, it’s probably unrealistic to think that all will be harmonious for the entire journey. Keep some of these fun road trip games handy and be ready when your back seat passengers start to get antsy. You can purchase little prizes for the winner or just do a family cheer after each game. Maybe the winner could pick the next place to stop for a treat. Remember, mom and dad, it’s always best to be prepared, especially when you will all be stuck in the car for many hours. Fun road trip games can save the day! Hope you have fun and enjoy save travels!
