Hi! I’ve always given in a big way in my community. I teach my kids to do the same. I’m the fundraising chair for the Eastern Shore Bucks, I’ve been the popcorn colonial for Boy Scouts (for 4 counties), fundraising chair for Friends of Scouting and the list of my community contributions goes on and on. I’ve pushed my kids to give back to their community as well. My eldest is a teen court volunteer and is working on his Eagle Scout project too.
Well this year I want to be able to help for either Thanksgiving or Christmas. Would you please help me think of ideas of what we could do? Maybe you (readers of Family Frugal Fun) could nominate someone in need that you know? Maybe you could tell me about your favorite cause or charity. Maybe you could tell me about a foster child in your neighborhood.
I’ll pick something very soon and will publicize the project here on Family Frugal Fun. Can you help with giving ideas, please? What would you like to see? How can Family Frugal Fun help this community?

An amazing charity is the A21 Campaign. Their mission is to rescue women who are in slavery. Here is their website for more information: http://www.thea21campaign.org/

Maggie, I just recently learned about the ACE Center in Seaford, Delaware. They help a group of homeless that live under the bridge. I know from other couponers that donate to them, that they are always thankful for any help they can get. If you need the contact info, just let me know. Darlene

How about a gently used coat drive for less fortunate people in our area? Most dry cleaners will clean them for free when you advise them it is for a good cause.

I think it’s the Salvation Army that does the angel campaign at Christmastime. They have a list of families in need and you can adopt one and provide gifts. St. Jude’s is always at the top of my list, too. And I like that idea above for coat drive. What about a sock drive? Warm socks in the winter are probably needed by a lot of people and many of us can afford to contribute a new pair. Looking forward to what you come up with Maggie!

Pick a small foodbank. We have 4 centers in Beltsville alone. You can make a MAJOR difference in any one of them. (I support St. Joseph’s.). We especially need fresh food. One year every family got one orange. I was hoping to grow food this year, but the squirrels razed my garden. Grocery stores are required to throw away bad food even if there is only one bad fruit or veggie in the bag, it must all be thrown away. Any help and prayers are greatfully accepted.
