As a home school mom I’ve been contemplating the idea of a family project. I was looking for one that would benefit our family, mother earth, and leave kids with the skills to understand that they too can research a project and make it work. I make up my own curriculum 2 to 3 times a year and although I do believe handwriting (yes I know public school cut out handwriting), math and writing are all important, I think it’s equally important to take on a project each year. Well I have 2 projects in mind this year;
- Solar
- greenhouse
Now when I say solar, I’m thinking of 1 to 4 solar panels, converter box, battery banks and 1 to 4 appliances. As far as the greenhouse is concerned, I know that I can do tons of science and math in the greenhouse as well as botany and so much more. Oh and lets not forget my favorite part – AN EXTENDED GROWING SEASON! Ahh there is nothing like a fresh tomato!
So, stay tuned! I’m in the research phase of the project and contemplating how I’ll teach the lessons and how we’ll break up the research. I’m thinking of picking BOTH project because they are both so exciting…. We’ll see! Whatever it is I”ll be sure to make videos or take pictures and write out instructions for the projects so you can take this on with your family to show them that there is NOTHING that you can’t accomplish with a little teamwork!
