Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe – If you have lots of half-empty bottles of hair conditioner sitting around the house, you can turn them into a homemade fabric softener. Take a look at this quick and easy homemade fabric softener recipe that you can make for just pennies per load.
You will need just two ingredients:
- 1/2 bottle of hair conditioner (something inexpensive from the dollar store is fine) – feel free to use a conditioner with lots of scent
- 1 cup of white vinegar
Mix the two above ingredients together. An old laundry detergent bottle is perfect for storing the mixture. You may notice a vinegar smell when you use it, but don’t worry – it will not be left behind on your clothes. Vinegar actually acts as a rinsing agent and boosts your cleaning power even more, which is particularly great if you also make your own laundry detergent.
Use 2 tablespoons plus 1 tablespoon of water in the fabric softener compartment of front load or high efficiency washers. You will need to use about twice that amount in standard washers.
If you’d like to add a strong fresh scent to your fabric softener just use one of these essential oils like lemon, eucalyptsis, or lavendar.
