Homemade Fabric Softener Recipe – Did you know one of the first ingredients in store-bought laundry products is water? That’s why many people have started making their own. So I did some research, asked around and found my friend’s recipe for homemade fabric softener. Here’s a quick and easy homemade fabric softener recipe that you can make for just pennies per load.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 bottle of hair conditioner (something inexpensive from the dollar store is fine)
- 1 cup of white vinegar
Mix the two above ingredients together. I use an old laundry detergent bottle to store the mixture. Feel free to use a conditioner that has lots of scent. You will notice the vinegar smell when you use it, but don’t worry – it will not be left behind on your clothes.
Use 2 tablespoons plus 1 tablespoon of water in the fabric softener compartment of front load or high efficiency washers. You will need to use about twice that amount in standard washers.
This is a great way to use up old hair conditioner that is just sitting around at home. If you make your own laundry detergent, the vinegar in this mixture acts as a rinsing agent for even better cleaning power.
So what do you think? Wanna make your own and give it a try?
If you’d like to add a strong fresh scent to your fabric softener just use one of these essential oils like lemon, eucalyptsis, or lavendar.
