Homemade Halloween Costumes
Let’s face it, money is tight for most of us these days. Halloween costumes are usually worn just once and then tossed aside…so this year, why not make homemade Halloween costumes for your family? It doesn’t have to be complicated, and often you have just what you need already to pull together a quick and inexpensive costume.
Black tights or leggings, a long sleeved black shirt, and some makeup can turn anyone into a cat pretty easily. Just use blush to color your nose pink, and eyeliner on the cheeks to draw on whiskers. Or, check out my post on **Printable Halloween Masks** for a kitty mask. You could do pretty much the same thing except dress all in white and stick a wad of cotton balls on the backside to become a cute bunny.
One or two cardboard boxes can be decorated with “buttons” to become a robot. Rest a smaller one (with a face area cut out for the head) on your shoulders, then wear a larger one with lots of buttons and gizmos on it.
Last year, a friend’s daughter dressed as Moaning Myrtle from the Harry Potter movie series, her parents just cut out a cardboard toilet seat and she dressed in a school uniform with pale makeup.
The Headless Horseman can come alive with a foam craft pumpkin to hold, a large white dress shirt that comes up and fastens to cover the neck, and a cape. You can even carve out the foam pumpkin so that it doubles as a trick or treat bucket. Be sure to cut eye holes in the shirt so this version of the headless horseman can still see!

Hey, I know that kid 🙂 So glad her costume was able to be a Halloween costume inspiration for your blog!

It’s really quite creative! I heard she won a Nook in last years costume contest too!
