Time for some table talk about dogs….. As a dog owner, I’m always looking at my dog’s food. Which dog food companies have the best track record as far as the latest dog food recalls, best grain free dog foods, ease of purchase, possibly free samples, and best price. Well I’ve seen my good friends adorable Pekingese girls on Facebook forever and decided to strike up a chat about food for the pooch. I was wondering, “Is it cheaper to make your own homemade raw dog food?”
I’ve found dog food that costs more then I’d pay for ground beef so it did spark my frugal thinking. My girlfriend Celeste says, “The best grain free dog food I have found this year for my two Pekingese girls is Performatrin Small Breed Adult Nutrition Dog Food.” She said she also mixes in some Merrick canned dog food for added flavor and moisture or for a special treat a couple times a week. Huh…. and I’ve just been mixing in dinner plate leftovers that my kids didn’t eat! ☺Lol
Well, as much as I’d love to make my dogs food on a daily basis, time constraints & 4 kids really making cooking dog food unlikely. Besides, with 4 kids my dog is always getting leftovers whether I want her to or not! Lol Not to mention, I worry about giving her all the right nutrition. However, I would like to look into cooking dog food more in the near future. I found some good books I wanted to share and ask anyone if they’ve started making their dogs food? I think I’d like to experiment and check out a cost and time analysis.
Below are the dog food recipe cookbooks that I’ve found that have pretty good reviews;

I have made my dogs healthy biscuit treats but never dog food. May have to try it.
