Dogs are carnivores by nature, and many feel that the best diet is homemade.
Raw dog food can be economical and easy to make. I decided to share with you a recipe I recently tried and tweaked a bit, and our dog loved it. Best of all, these ingredients are all items already found in most kitchens, so this is an easy and economical homemade raw dog food recipe:
Homemade Raw Dog Food Recipe:
- 2 cups cubed chicken, beef or turkey
- 1 cup brown rice, cooked
- ½ cup carrots, peas, green beans – frozen vegetables work well.
- 2 eggs, fried well
Combine and puree vegetables using either a food chopper, or – my personal favorite – the Magic Bullet. ☺
Dice up cooked eggs.
In a large bowl, combine pureed vegetables with meat and rice. Stir, then add eggs and mix well. Serve ½-1 cup of food. Refrigerate remaining food and serve for up to 3 days. You may find you need to add a bit of liquid before each serving – warm water is best. The ideal consistency is that of tuna salad – not wet but definitely not dry.
Note: Avoid use of onions, garlic, and broccoli. All of these can cause gas and stomach upset.
