If you’re looking for kids Halloween party ideas then you’ll definitely want to try these fun Candy Corn Cupcakes.
You can use a box mix for your cupcake batter or your Grandmom’s favorite cup cake recipe…. It won’t matter. What turns them into a fun fall festive harvest party treat is the orange, yellow and white icing on top. Now if you’re used to spreading icing with a butter knife don’t be intimidated with this whipped delicious buttercream icing. Buttercream icing is easy to make and the way you get these absolutely beautiful swirls is simply by using this icing bag and tip. They’re really inexpensive to purchase and you wash them out when you’re done to reuse over, and over and over.
For your colors just use these Wilton food coloring gels – orange, and yellow (your butter cream icing will already be white)
Recipe for Buttercream icing:
- Dream Whip
- Water
- Vanilla
- butter
- shortening
- powdered sugar
- heavy whipped cream
- butter
Directions:
-
1Combine dream whip, water, and vanilla with a mixer in a deep bowl until combined on low; Increase speed to high and whip until mixture begins to look fluffy (approximately 4 minutes).
-
2Add shortening, whipping cream, and butter. Combine with mixer on low speed, scraping sides of bowl as needed. Once combined, mix on high for approximately two minutes. It should look like frosting at this point. Add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, mixing on low speed after each addition.
-
3This recipe will frost a 13 x 9 x 2 or two 9″ rounds, with icing left over for piping and decorating.
TIP: When you go to add the candy corn colors to the top of the cup cake you should use 3 separate icing bags to separate the colors well. Use a good quality food color like these from Wilton. I love the McCormick food colors (liquid) but I don’t suggest liquid food color for this recipe.
Optional: Candy corn candy piece on top.
A big thanks to Darlene S Phillips. She’s the local cupcake queen on the Eastern Shore but I can’t seem to convince her to open a blog or store so until then…. I’ll keep your up to date on her delicious works! The icing recipe was compliments of food.com (thank you). The photo is, of course, from Darlene. Thanks!!!
