PoshMark for Beginners: Another season has come and gone, the kids have grown some more and you’ve got a pile of clothes to clear out… PoshMark is your answer! This article will help you clear out your closet, earn some side cash and possibly, just maybe, launch a new side hustle if you’re really motivated!
Lets Talk Basics 1st
PoshMark (click link to sign up – it’s free) is an ingenious app for selling used and new items online, right from your smart phone. You’ll have access to millions of buyers and the process is truly the easiest I’ve ever seen.
- load the app
- snap an image of the item you want to sell (front, back, sides)
- post it on PoshMark right from your phone after you’ve taken the picture
- when your items sells, print out the mailing label (buyer pays for a pre-paid label you print)
- drop it at your local post office for delivery (you are welcome to use the free boxes available at the post office or use your own box from home – like a shoe box or Amazon box)
PoshMark is also a Social Media App
I was standing in line for the opening of a store and I overhead the conversation of 2 e-bay sellers. They were talking about PoshMark! I was chuckling inside my head at their conversation because they were talking about the need to get followers on PoshMark and that they didn’t want to “get into all that.” Well let me explain; Yes, PoshMark is a social media app in that you gain followers to your closet (your closet is what you have for sale) and people can leave public messages for each other. It’s not like Facebook for example – you won’t find people airing their “dirty laundry” here… everything is clean, public and on the up and up ☺!
You may find a potential customer ask about the length of a strap on a purse or a mom asking for exact measurements of a formal gown for her daughter to wear to the prom but that’s really about it for comments. Most everything is fashion related.
Being able to publicly request information and, having people that love the same clothes you love and follow you on the app is what I really like about PoshMark! It’s so simple, user friendly, and totally fun! I joined the app on January 21st. Today is March 31st and I have over 33,300 followers! Quick and simple!
What Kinds of Things Should I Sell on PoshMark:
PoshMark is quite unique and unlike e-bay or Amazon. This app is for fun and fashionable folks like you and me. You can sell jewelry, accessories like hair bands, scarves and hats and of course, shoes and clothes!!
How do You get Paid on PoshMark:
Getting paid on PoshMark is quick and so easy! After a buyer purchases your item, you print the label, mail out the package and then the buyer has 3 days to accept the purchase. Many Poshers accept the package immediately and then your earnings are released. Once funds are released you can do with them as you please. That means you can leave them in your Posh account to purchase clothes for your family or you can enter your bank routing numbers and transfer the funds to your personal account (checking, savings or whatever you like).
Once in a while the buyer doesn’t accept the item and in that case, if it’s not returned, on the 4th day PoshMark will release your funds. I’ve sold 21 items and 90% accept the item and release the funds. Poshers tend to be quite courteous!
A few Extra Tips:
- Wash clothes and be sure they’re all clean before taking pictures and selling on PoshMark
- For Dry Clean only clothes that are perfectly good that you may have outgrown just use dryel (it’s a product for dry cleaning right in the convenience of your own dryer. I’ll post an image above but this product is perfect for nicer business garments and saves a trip to the dry cleaners, after all, you wanna sell this stuff…. not make a special trip to the dry cleaners just to sell your work clothes)
- Give kids the option to sell their clothes on PoshMark and keep the profits. I was amazing how this turned into my daughter doing her own laundry, using a stain remover, and taking MUCH better care of her clothes!
- Start a PoshMark side business. If you have an amazing thrift store near you, or you are a lover of yard sales and know a bargain when you see one, then you may be the perfect person to start a side business selling on PoshMark. People that want a steady side income and already love to snag a bargain are great candidates for opening a boutique (that’s a section of your “closet” that is for only new items) or, just get clothes at yard sales and thrift stores and re-sell them on PoshMark. There are tons of parents, just like us, selling on PoshMark for a fun side hustle and covering grocery money from week to week.
