Yep – you read it right…. There are TONS of health benefits to pumpkin seeds so while you’re busy carving your seeds
this Halloween let me tell you about some of the reasons you should wash the seeds, roast them, and eat them afterwards. I’ve been carving and eating pumpkin seeds since I was a kid. It’s just something that was a family tradition in our home. Now I don’t think I’d been eating pumpkin seeds since I was a kid because I thought it was a “nutritious snack” necessarily – it just so happens that pumpkin seeds ARE a nutritious snack. Going back to the idea and mom always knows best!
If you’ve been reading health books you’ve probably heard that a highly acidic diet is supposed to lead to poor health. Well pumpkins seeds fall in the alkaline ph scale so that alone makes them a healthy, good for you food, but there’s more. Pumpkin seeds, according to all of my research are high in vitamin K and contain large amounts of zinc which is a necessary nutrient. They are also proclaimed to reduce inflammation in arthritis, they help to lower cholesterol, and are also high in Vitamins B and E.
I’ve already liked roasted pumpkin seeds. So this year while you’re carving up your pumpkins with your family, be sure to roast those pumpkins for your health too! Not carving pumpkins? Here’s a link to purchase pumpkin seeds online with great reviews!
