Have you noticed the MaraNatha printable coupon for peanut butter coupon for $1.00 off here? I posted it last week – These run about $4.48 at Walmart (I price checked them yesterday in the Dover DE new SuperWalmart!) so $3.48 with coupon. This is considered a really high end high quality peanut butter. All peanut butter prices are expected to rise over the coming months (just an FYI).
Sometime around last Christmas I received a message on my voice mail about a “flatcreen TV to be delivered to my home.” I hit the delete button figuring it was a wrong number – no TV ordered in this house (probably because there are no coupons for flatscreen tv’s!) They called back and left another message 2 days later. Same thing – I hit delete. Then about a week and a half after Christmas I was checking voice mail messages again and my husband was sitting next to me and overheard the 3rd voice mail message and he say “whooo – What is that about?” and I said “Oh its just a wrong number – they’re trying to deliver a television.” You’ll laugh when you hear my husbands next words “Is it paid for?” and I said I don’t know – we didn’t order a TV so its probably just a wrong number! He said give me the phone and he called the number back this time. My mother sent my husband a 42″ flatscreen TV for Christmas and never told us!
Well we ordered a new cabinet from the Amish furniture makers to go under the TV and after about 6 months the furniture was delivered and we went to set up our one and only flatscreen. You can imagine the excitement in our house – popcorn in the microwave and a special show all lined up!
We pulled out the TV from the box, excited to have our family night around the television and to our huge disappointment, it was cracked in the bottom left side of the screen! Ughhh! I went to my local Walmart the next day to ask them about a return (with no receipt because my mother couldn’t find it 6 months later). They said “no.” We contacted the credit card the tv was purchased with to see about the buyers security protection – FREE replacement program most credit cards offer that consumers don’t event know exists (but I do). We could have had the TV replaced FREE of charge if we noticed the damage in the 1st 3 months but it had been about 6 months at that point so no deal and they said “no.”
At this point I made one last effort to write a letter to Walmart and in the letter that I sent to corporate I included photos of the television with the original box, plastic etc (to show that it was still in the same condition as when it was delivered). I reminded them that their policy states that they will replace or repair an item and I asked them to honor their policy.
I received an exciting call from Walmart today telling me to bring back my broken tv and to pick out my new one! We’re so excited. Pizza for dinner, popcorn in the microwave again! We’re thinking of paying the difference and upgrading to a 50″ or 55″ inch!
Thank you Walmart – You did the right thing! I will definitely continue to shop and promote Walmart!
(p.s. In case you’re wondering about the manufacturer’s warranty – I contacted RCA and read the manual and they “don’t cover cracked screens.”
Want to see the TV we’re checking out? Check out this 55″ Flatscreen here! Did you know that Walmart also sells refurbished models at a nice discount? Yes!
