Well I had the pleasure of my FIRST dinner theatre experience last week. I went to Toby’s Dinner Theatre in Columbia, MD and wowza was is fantastic!
Really, I’d never attended a dinner theatre before but now I’m definitely hooked – well at least I’m hooked on Toby’s. We saw Memphis which is an hysterical and awe inspiring musical in and of itself however the entertainers in the musical were the ones that really made the night come alive. The singer that plays the poor black woman in a nightclub sounded like she should have been in a recording studio or on broadway at the least. And, the dancers were amazing. I 1/2 expected some clunky locals that learned one or two moves but clearly these fellas have some pretty serious dance training because they were GOOD!
My mother found it hysterical when I said, “Mom, wasn’t that our waiter?” Yes, it’s true, I had no idea that the wait staff are the performers!!! How cool is that!!! Oh my goodness what an experience.
Well lets get on to the food. At Toby’s you eat first then the food is miraculously, swiftly cleared and the show begins. We started with salads then moved into several entrees different entrees. There was a delicious rice dish, meats for custom carving, a chicken entree and tons of sides. It was all delicious but of course I think that any food that I didn’t prepare tastes just a little bit better Lol! Can’t forget to mention the ice cream sundae bar – YUM!
You can check out their schedule here. I’m planning to head back for Mary Poppins with the entire family (November 2015)
