Uses for Peppermint Oil – Health and Beauty
Peppermint oil, which comes from the peppermint plant, is a hybrid of wintermint and spearmint and is multifunctional. It’s been used for so long that it was even found in some of the Egyptian pyramids. That’s staying power! Besides smelling wonderful and being useful in aromatherapy, here are some ways to use peppermint oil in your daily health and beauty routine that you may not have thought of.
- Keep cavities away!
Peppermint oil extract can be as effective as mouthwash when it comes to preventing cavities.To use, just add one to two drops to your toothpaste. You will be keeping your teeth healthy and you receive the added benefit of minty, fresh breath. Win, win!
- Use to keep hair healthy!
Did you know you can use peppermint oil to keep dandruff away? Adding just a bit to your conditioner will help to hydrate your scalp, thus eliminating dandruff. Peppermint oil has fatty acids that not only hydrate, but soothe and rejuvenate. No more itching! No more flakes! Peppermint oil also increases circulation and because hair follicles are stimulated, your hair will grow faster and look shiny and healthy.
- Control unsightly acne!
Peppermint oil can help to get ridof acne by controlling the secretion of excess oil and preventing the clogging of pores. Combining a few drops of peppermint oil, ¾ bottle of water and a few drops of apple cider vinegar as a facial mist will help tighten and tone the skin on your face, letting you look and feel your very best.

For a terrific smelling exfoliant that you can use on your whole body, try mixing up this simple peppermint sugar scrub.
- 1 cup granulated white sugar
- ½ cup of melted, but not hot coconut oil
- 8 to 12 drops of peppermint oil.
Use daily on your heels, knees and elbows to keep them smooth and all over once a week to invigorate and give your skin a healthy glow.
Peppermint oil has a variety of uses, but I bet there is at least one from the list above that you were unaware of.
