Uses for Witch Hazel
There are so many uses for witch hazel, which I just love, because it is an inexpensive household product…even better that it can multi-task as well! This Dickinsons With Hazel is one of my favorite brands of witch hazel. I really like that it also has aloe in it, which in itself has many healing properties for the skin. Here are my top ten uses for witch hazel:
- Reduce pore size to help fight acne. This is great information if you have a teenager in the house, because those acne treatment creams can be pretty pricy.
- Virtually eliminate under-eye redness and puffiness…which my fellow busy moms know happens all the time! Just soak a cotton ball and let it rest on your closed eyelid for a minute.
- Use a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel to heal bruises quickly. It’s true! I find that using a bandaid or piece of tape to hold the cotton ball in place over the bruise works great, and soon that bruise will fade right away.
- Red blotchy skin? Apply witch hazel twice a day for an all-natural skin toner.
- Witch hazel is a great makeup remover as well.
- Did you know styptic pencils that people use to stop bleeding when shaving cuts occur are actually a type of witch hazel-derived product? Yep, it’s true. Witch hazel can help stop bleeding from minor cuts and scrapes.
- Another product made from witch hazel are hemorrhoid products. Instead of pricy wipes, soak a cotton pad in witch hazel for relief from the pain and sting associated with hemorrhoids.
- A drop or two of witch hazel in the ear can help to dry up swimmer’s ear.
- Clean your makeup brushes with a mixture of 50% warm water and 50% witch hazel to remove buildup and help the brushes last longer, without adding bacteria to your skin.
- If you are suffering from a slight sunburn, apply witch hazel to help soothe the sting and get rid of the redness.
