Well I broke my cardinal rule yesterday! I ran out of something and I “needed” it and sent my husband out late at night. We were willing to pay any price for the item.
Strangely enough at bath time last night we noticed our little girl was breaking out in hives all over her body. It started on the thigh and then by the time we were drying her off , her ear had grown swollen and enlarged. It was spreading fast and we had no idea what was causing the hives. Time for Benedryl, fast! Go to the medicine baskets – no Benedryl. We didn’t even have adult Benedryl that we could break in half, we didn’t have any at all. Then I remembered, a children’s Benedryl coupon came out a couple week back but I didn’t see a sale for it so I held onto the coupon and didn’t buy any! Ughh. Bad parent voices start going off in my head and I can hear myself telling everyone in my coupon seminars “Advance planning is the key to frugal living. Stock up when things are on sale because if you run out and need something, you’ll be willing to pay any price for it,” and this is exactly what was happening to me! My sweet little girl, covered in chocolate pudding, that helped me make dirt cake yesterday, was starting to look like a monster! Eeeeks!
So my husband gets dressed while I quickly hit my coupon stash for that Benedryl coupon. Ahh, at least we can save a buck but at this point there is no way to shop for a sale. I was on the computer trying to figure out the closest store that would carry the product. Se my husband heads out the door with coupon in hand and returns a bit later with the Children’s Benedryl. Relief! The swelling started going down within 40 minutes and no more hives were appearing. Finally at about 11:15pm Samantha could comfortably go to bed. What a night!
The moral of the story: Just like us, when you’re child is in “need” you’ll be willing to do anything to make them better. Its just what parents do. So you don’to get caught late one night be sure to stock up on meds that you may need in a pinch this fall and winter. Here’s my list along with some coupons:
