This is a really neat thing I tried last year with our pumpkins. I wanted to do something else with the Halloween pumpkins but I’m also no artist so it had to be something easy, yet creative. So I was inspired, found my metal cookie cutters and this worked like a charm. The kids loved it and I liked it too. So if you’re looking for creative Halloween props homemade you’ve come to the right place for some fun ideas.
If you don’t believe in jack o lanterns or celebrating Halloween then this is a great alternative for your fall harvest party. Mom or dad can carve the top out of the pumpkin. Kids can help clean out the seeds and guts. Then, kids pick out the patterns with cookie cutters and parents help them hammer the shape right into the pumpkin being careful not to hammer little fingers!
Then, with a little pressure or a plastic pumpkin carving tool use pressure to pop out your perfect carved out shape! Note: You MUST use metal cookie cutter shapes. Pumpkins are hard so plastic ones will be beaten to pieces.
Use your shapes that you’ve cut out of your pumpkin to decorate Halloween food plates and food trays for your dinner or party to keep things festive. Get creative…. you can make themes or go scary. I have links below to my favorite cookie cutters for this project. Have fun!
