What a day it has been, running the kids all around town for various activities, assisting them with their homework, cooking dinner and planning for tomorrow’s madness all over again…whew!
As parents, we all know how crazy things can be keeping up with the demands of family, when it comes to filling the pantry it is easy to walk the grocery aisle just grabbing the great deals we see or items we have coupons for all the while reaching for the same products we always grab out of habit including our best friends “Big Bag” of Dog food. After all he is a dog right? Dogs will eat anything, won’t they?
A while back a friend of mine who has an active Dog Rescue stopped by the house and grabbed my “Big Bag” of Dog food and read to me many of the ingredients on the bag, needless to say I was a bit taken back, not by my friend but by the list of ingredients. As she recited the list I heard ingredients such as Glyceryl Monostearate, Propylene Glycol, Brewers Rice and so on. If you are thinking these don’t sound good for your dog, well you are correct. My friend then started discussing how to cut out these nasty bits from my Dog’s diet and started sharing the benefits of Homemade Raw Dog Food!
Expense came to mind then quickly dissolved, as we discussed it more it became apparent how important it was to me for my loving pet to be healthy just like my children. One benefit of using a Homemade Raw Dog Food Recipe would be a healthier pet leading to potentially fewer vet visits. Another large benefit is less stool to follow up on in the yard. Commercially produced dog foods heavy in fillers cause your dog to have to drop a much larger load more often…who ever knew?!
There are many great recipes for putting together homemade Raw Dog Food, of course one of my favorite ideas was “Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits”!
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (you can use another type of flour if your dog is sensitive to wheat)
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup peanut butter, chunky or smooth
- 1 1/4 cups hot water
Additional flour for rolling
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 350° F
- Mix dry ingredients together.
- Mix in the peanut butter and hot water. You may need to add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Knead the dough well.
- Roll out the dough into 1/4″ thickness and cut into shapes with dog cookie cutters.
- Bake on a lightly greased cookie sheet for 40 minutes. Turn off the oven and let them cool overnight.
Give treating your Dog to Homemade Raw Dog Food a try, he will love you for it and you will feel so much better knowing how much healthier he will be.
