Especially for your Dog: Homemade Treat Recipe – I love baking AND making treats for the pets is no exception. After all, we as moms take great pride in making great treats for our children, so why not make something tasty as a treat for your dog? My 4 year old daughter loves to be in the kitchen with me so this is another fun thing to so. Homemade treats are not hard to make, and they are really healthy for your pet. Best of all, homemade dog treats don’t have to be really expensive – check out my recipe for using leftovers to make tasty treats for your pup:
Ingredients for Leftover Dog Treats:
- Unseasoned cooked meat
- Fresh or frozen vegetables – no onions
- Creamy Peanut Butter (*optional)
Rinse off any spices or seasoning from meat, and cut into small cubes, no larger than 1/4 inch. Add vegetables so the mixture is about half meat and half vegetable. Peas, small amounts of broccoli, and lima beans are particularly tasty for your pet. You can spray this mixture lightly with cooking spray and dehydrate it in a food dehydrator or a 200 degree oven until dried. This method makes a “trail mix” that you can store in a ziploc bag.
*Peanut Butter option: Before spraying or drying this mix, add peanut butter to combine and bind all ingredients. Fill an ice tray with spoonfuls of the mix and place in the freezer. You can give you dog this treat directly from the freezer, and they will enjoy licking it until melted enough to eat it.
