The Deacon Jones Foundation and Maryland Art Place Interview with Ms. Elizabeth Jones – As a mom in Maryland, I am always looking for fun, educational things for my family. I believe that building relationships through experiences is more valuable than any material item we could give our children. What’s more is that I like to give my kids an educational experience that broadens their horizons, teaches them to be leaders, and gives us something to explore. The Deacon Jones Foundation and Maryland Art Place do just that for Maryland families.
I was able to interview Ms. Elizabeth Jones (president of the Deacon Jones Foundation) to learn more about her foundation. Here’s what we learned!
It was Created to Help Young People
The Deacon Jones Foundation and Maryland Art Place was founded in 1997 to assist young people in the communities that they live. The primary objective of this amazing place was to develop leaders and give young talented students the tools they need to become positive role models and member of society.
Mrs. Jones told me in the interview “I am trying to carry on the legacy and mission my husband had when he founded it.”
Furthermore, Elizabeth wants to help aspiring artists in an amazing way through the Young Emerging Artists Educational Grant they received.
Aspiring Artists Grant
The Deacon Jones Foundation and Maryland Art Place was thrilled to announce that they had been awarded the Young Emerging Artists Education Grant.
In my interview with Mr.s Jones, she said, “The importance of helping develop creative minds has long been a passion of mine. It is with these student’s gifts to society our communities will become stronger.” What a powerful role model for my daughter to look up to and how inspiring!!!
With these new funds, Elizabeth Jones plans to help MAP (Maryland Art Place) develop students into stronger role models as well as help them build onto their creative talents. She believes that artistic expression of all types is an integral part of a student’s education and we completely agree with that vision!
Various Programs Are Offered
Because of the generosity of the National Football League, Jackson Family Wines, grants and other sponsors, the foundation is able to support various programs that are centered around the arts such as:
- Exhibition opportunities
- Workshops
- Mentorship programs
- Public Engagement for local artists
- 6-8 annual exhibitions with gallery talks, performances, and professional development workshops.
Along with all they have to offer, Elizabeth let us know that the foundation will also be expanding their students programming to incorporate “Kid Out of Order.” It will begin Friday, April 5, 2019. Guests can browse artwork from over 250 artists while enjoying the open bar. Tickets are only $45 per person and $25 for parents and guardians of artists.
Through my interview with Elizabeth Jones, I feel she really has a heart and a passion to see artists of all backgrounds succeed in what they love. If you haven’t heard of the Deacon Jones Foundation or Maryland Art Place, it is full of beauty, history, and an uplifting community.
You can visit MAP at 218 West Saratoga Street in Bromo Tower Arts & Entertainment District. Or you can visit their website for more information.
