Heads up all of you adrenalin junkies have I got the perfect family/group activity for you! Autobahn Indoor Speedway is a great activity for anyone ages 8 and up. Everyone will enjoy racing around in these miniature cars competing against their friends and family for the “championship trophy”.
Autobahn Indoor Speedway is an indoor go-cart racetrack. Well my son was turning 12 this year and we had not given him a party in several years, so my husband and I decided this would be a night to remember 1st heading to Autobahn Indoor Speedway then on to Medieval Times (my favorite dining adventure!). The speedway has several locations including one in Baltimore so if you don’t live close don’t worry, you’ll likely be able to find one near. For younger kids (8+) they have a kiddy track that is set up specifically for younger children, and an adult track (13+) that is set up more for more experienced racers. I took 12 kids to the Baltimore racetrack for my son’s birthday. I was a little apprehensive because my family has never done go-cart racing before, but after this experience I am so glad we did it!
Registering for the track is easy and quick, but if you are taking other kids besides your own, you’ll need a signed waiver (found on their website) and a copy of the parent’s driver’s license. At the track there are several different safety regulations that the racers must follow, but nothing extreme.
The participants are required to wear a helmet, which is provided, and wear closed toed shoes. The go-carts have safety harnesses attached to the carts and the kids are locked in tight. From a mom’s perspective everything seemed pretty safe so that was another plus.
The kids all really enjoyed it, they said they liked how intense the speed was when it increased during the race, and the adrenalin rush that came with it. The kids raced against each other with competition running wild. The races were timed on how fast you could get around the course with each race consisting of 14 lap for the 13+ group. There were several different ways for the kids to gain “points” to become the winner. Points were added or subtracted for: fastest individual time in one lap (+), getting a black flag (-), the fastest average time for each individual kid (+), and so on. After each race the kids were given a score sheet that had their statistics for each race so they could compare their scores with their friends. Their faces were filled with excitement!
I personally enjoyed watching the kids’ race around this track, competing against each other for the right to call themselves the “champion”. Some of the kids were more competitive than others, but all of them had an exciting, heart-pumping experience and left the venue chattering about who won and why. My son can’t wait to come back and said it was the “best birthday ever!” Autobahn is a load of fun for everyone!!!
