Are you ready to have some serious family fun? Welcome to Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, Virginia – your ticket to the family experience of a life time with fun for everyone in your family and different promotions for every season! Read below for my family tips on a Great Wolf so you know what to bring, when to go, and who to bring!
Great Wolf Williamburg is just 2-3 hours from the Mid-Atlantic Washington, DC – Baltimore metropolitan area making it the perfect mini road trip getaway for families all over this region. My favorite time to visit is traditionally February, when the snow has turned to slush, the kids are tired of being cooped up inside, and ” (and eat their candy after trick or treating – ha!) Tip: When you go to the Great Wolf website (link above in 1st paragraph) click on “special offer” on the top navigational bar – they’ve having a 48 hour sale RIGHT NOW!
Ok, on to my favorite part of this long weekend getaway – the food! Yes! Moms need breaks from cooking and especially cleaning up! Great Wolf has an all you can eat restaurant which is perfect for picky eaters because if they don’t like what they’ve placed on their plate they can simply get another plate of food and try something else. I found the food to be delicious with numerous options for gluten free, vegetarian and especially kid friendly options. If your family is anything like mine, there will be one picky eater in your crew too. Well, Great Wolf has got ‘ya covered all the way down to the fresh salad bar. Reservations are suggested otherwise you may wait as we did – it was only 15 minutes but if we would have thought in advance we could have scheduled dinner and been seated immediately.
Later on that evening we opted for the “Wine down Service” offered by Great Wolf Lodge especially made for parents. What a way to end the evening – Highly recommended!
My kids favorite part you’re wondering? Well, it’s the indoor water park – aka “indoor fun park.” Water slides, wave pools, hot tubs – what’s not to love right? I think what makes the water park so fun is that kids can play and slide with each other or parents can experience the fun and be silly for a day making memories while getting waterlogged and spending quality time just playing with the kids. Think about it – how frequently do we really get to play with our kids? I don’t know about you but I spend a huge amount of time on laundry, cleaning, work, and dinner. All these adult “chores” mean I’m taking great care of my kids but I don’t always have time to enjoy my kids. That’s where vacations and road trips come into the scene to give us quality time – playing, doing cartwheels down the halls (I hope they didn’t catch up on the security cameras doing that!) and just plain old talking late at night back in the hotel room. That’s the stuff that families are made of, the place where experiences happen and families come together getting away from the business of life, we create memories and stories – stories we joke about for years to come (did my husband really drop that slice of pizza on his lap in the water park……Yes! Lol)
A close 2nd for fabulous fun was a tie between the Creation Station and the Kids Salon. At Creation Station you pick out a fun animal and stuff him/her, choose clothes and all sorts of fun for your one of a kind best stuffed friend. At the salon kids can have make up done, fingernails and all sorts of totally fun papering with mom and daughter packages to really have some family fun. My daughter really enjoyed this pampering and fuss being made over her! After all… who doesn’t want to be Princess for a day???
And lastly, on to my husbands favorite part – the outside play zone. My husband has become an adventure seeker and the outdoor part of Great Wolf Williamsburg has the most amazing fun stuff to do! You can swim in the outdoor seasonal pool or get your equipment and start on the zip line. Honestly I’ve never seen a system for zip lining and climbing set up like this one – super safe with FUN written all over it! Even though we were there in October and Williamsburg is just a 2-3 hours from the Baltimore Washington DC metro area, the difference is anywhere from 4 to 6 degrees WARMER in temperature making the weather there in October fabulous! Tip: If you think you may like to enjoy the adventuresome outdoor activities, be sure to bring closed toe shoes (required for your climbing adventure)
After breaking out of the traditional trip in the middle of the winter, I was really pleased to see Great Wolf at a more seasonal time where we could enjoy ALL of the outdoor activities they offer. With so many of us caring for Grandparents and parents I’d say that Great Wolf is totally suitable for multi-generational travel so don’t worry, there’s plenty here for everyone. We only spent 2 nights and 3 days but I think I could spend a week for sure….. Maybe this winter!
A big thanks to Great Wolf Williamsburg for hosting our family so we could experience the October family fun. The thoughts and opinions above are completely mine. I was NOT paid to write this article and so the excitement and pictures above are 100% mine. Cheers to family fun and making memories with YOUR family! Isn’t it time you played with your kids?
