Safeway is a good store for weekly shopping but it will be important to shop sale items. They offer double coupons (in most regions in the Mid-Atlantic) and sell organic products as well as conventional and have an excellent selection of different brands. Do I need a loyalty card to shop at Safeway to obtain the most savings?
Yes you do and the best part is that they are FREE! You can sign up for a loyalty card at the customer courtesy counter in the store or you can apply for a loyalty card on line HERE
What if I forget my Safeway loyalty card – can they look up my information with my phone number?
Yes – just give the cashier your phone number and they will look up your card. If you are going through self check out there will be a “look up – forgot your savings card” button for you to touch to enter your phone number on the computer screen.
How do I “stack” coupons at Safeway for additional savings?
Stacking coupons is when you use a store coupon with a manufacturers’ coupon on one item. Safeway DOES allow stacking (most stores anyway – not all) and it is a great way to double your savings. We really like this feature and look make use of it frequently to cut our grocery bill dramatically! So…We stack coupons every chance we get! Store coupons come out right in your Safeway Sale circular and you just cut them out! Its super easy!
How do I obtain Safeway store coupons?
You can get Safeway store coupons right in the weekly Safeway sale circular. Click here for a link to the weekly sale circular. The weekly sale circular can also be found in your local newspaper or at the front of the store when you walk into any Safeway. (bring your scissors if you are planning on clipping right at the store!) Don’t forget to stack!
How can I “load”coupons directly onto my Safeway Club Card?
Safeway has a new Just for U programs for loading coupons directly onto your Safeway Club Card which means less clipping and more savings. However …. This program is NOT available in all states and the web site doesn’t say which states its available in and which states it isn’t. You should also remember that these “loadable” coupons are NOT doubled!
Explain coupon doubling at Safeway?
At our local Safeway in our county and the next one over they offer double coupons up to $.99. That means a $.99 coupon is worth $1.98 at Safeway! A $.75 cent coupon is worth $1.50 and so forth. My understanding is that not all Safeway stores double up to $.99 however most do in the Mid-Atlantic region. Some Safeway stores only double up to $.50 which means a $.50 coupon is worth $1.00 total. I understnad that some Safeway stores only accept coupons at face value – Period. Is it really possible to get items for FREE at Safeway and even make money?
Yes it is! You can score FREE items at Safeway but not coupon overage because Safeway’s registers are programmed not to allow overage.
What special
offers does Safeway have?
They offer a few specials as follows:
1) Buy 7 Signature Café Safeway sandwiches and get the 8th one free
2) Gasoline specials at locations that offer fueling stations
3) Discounts on already made food for quick meals on certain days of the week (usually Fridays)
4) Free mini baby 1st birthday cake when ordering any ¼ sheet cake or larger.

Does Safeway allow price matching with sale circulars from a competitor like ACME or Target?
No, Safeway does not allow price matching however Walmart and Target do…. Meaning you could take your Safeway sale circular to Target to Walmart and price match.
Does Safeway have a pharmacy where I can save money?
Yes it does! Click here for a link to the pharmacy page on the Safeway web site. Safeway frequently puts out coupons for transferring your prescription and they offer many $4.00 generics! The coupons are generally available every few weeks in the Safeway store weekly sale circular. Just last week I needed a prescription refill and I paid only $4.00 for my prescription (generic) and received a $30.00 Safeway store gift card after just clipping the transfer prescription coupon right in my Safeway store weekly sale circular. What a savings!
Helpful hint: Always keep pharmacy discounts coupons on hand. You never know when you’ll need it for your kids with ear infections, poison ivy etc. This is another great way to save that most families overlook! Safeway will also offer $.10 off per gallon of fuel for every 2 prescriptions filled. (promotions may vary by location so call your local store in advance)

What day of the week does the Safeway sale start and end?
Each week the sale starts on Wednesday and ends at the close of business on Tuesday. They also offer a mini weekend sale starting on Sunday. Sometimes the mini weekend sale runs for a week however most of the time it end on Tuesday so check your dates at the bottom of your sale flyer.
